Elgin Community Cleanup Day Is Saturday

It’s time to start thinking about ways each Elgin resident can do to their part to clean up the community. The annual Elgin Community Cleanup Day will be Saturday, May 10. The date was chosen due to the availability of dumpsters used by so many to dispose of unwanted items.
Cleanup activities, for those wishing to have metal items hauled away, will begin Friday evening, May 9.
Jerry Finkral has said he will pick up metal items that night. These items should be placed along the curb no later than 5 p.m.
Guidelines residents are asked to follow on May 10:
Items which will not be allowed at the dumpster — materials from torn down buildings, fence posts, tires, or cans of paint (only dry paint cans will be accepted). A separate trailer will be available for persons wishing to dispose of TVs and computers Saturday morning. All lumber is to be placed off to the side of the dumpster. Also, all scrap metal should be placed off to the side.
The dumpster will be available on Saturday at the lot located north of Elgin Livestock. It will be removed from the lot Saturday evening.
It will be the property owner’s responsibility to haul items to the curb where they will be picked up by volunteers. The Community Club helps sponsor this event with the City of Elgin.
No volunteers will enter any homes to remove items. Items must be placed by the curb by 8 a.m. to be hauled away by volunteers.
