Elgin 16’s Go 1-2 At League Tourney

On June 25, Elgin played in the league tournament at Pierce. In their first game, Elgin defeated Battle Creek 23 to 2 in a 2 1/2 inning game.
Elgin scored 15 runs in the first inning then added another eight in the second inning. Elgin had 13 hits in the game.
Leading the hit parade was Grace Rittscher with a triple and two singles. Anna Heilhecker, Courtni Heckert and Harley Bode each had two singles, Calli Krebs, Paige Meis, Grace Henn and Heather Bauer each had one single.
Pitching for Elgin was Amy Nelson. She walked one and struck out three to get the victory.
In the second game, Elgin fell to O’Neill’s 18’s by a score of 5 to 0. Nelson led Elgin in hits with two singles, Heilhecker, Heckert, Heather Bauer and Skylar Reestman each had one single.
Heilhecker started on the mound for Elgin. She walked two and struck out two.
In the last game of the tournament, Madison’s 18’s beat Elgin 10 to 2 to eliminate Elgin from the tournament.
Rittscher, Heilhecker, Heckert and Grace Henn each had a single for Elgin.
Amy Nelson pitched the first four innings, walking one and striking out two. Heckert pitched the last inning, walking four.
Elgin’s last game of the season will be Wednesday, July 6, when they host Pierce’s 16’s and 18’s.
