Election 2016 Update, Candidates File For School Board, City Council

Election 2016 is underway here in Elgin as several filings for elective office have been made.
According to information obtained from the Antelope County Clerk’s office, so far there have been two filings for races impacting Elgin.
School board member Doug Jones has filed for a four-year term on the District #18 Board of Education. A former instructor and current wrestling coach at the school, Jones was appointed to the school board in 2015 to fill a vacant seat due to not enough candidates running for positions on the board in the 2014 General Election.
Other school board members whose seats are up for election this year are Steve Busteed, Laurie Waterbury and Stan Heithoff.
Elgin City Council
It’s possible the Ward #1 seat up for election this year could have a race. Earlier this month, Michael R. Braband filed for the seat currently being held by Jim Kittelson. Also, the Ward #2 seat currently being held by Don Mackel is up for election this year.
State Legislature
Having announced months ago his intention to run for the State Legislature last June, Boone County farmer Tom Briese officially became a candidate for the District #41 seat.
As of press time, Briese, 56, is the only candidate to have filed for the seat which is currently held by Kate Sullivan of Cedar Rapids. Sullivan, due to term limits, cannot run for re-election this year.
District #41 is made up of nine counties including Antelope, Wheeler, Boone, Garfield, Valley, Greeley, Howard, Pierce and Sherman.
