Eleanor J. Starman, 81, formerly of Elgin, NE passed away Sunday, August 30, 2015 at the Golden Living Center in Neligh.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 3, 2015 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin, with Rev. Ross Burkhalter officiating. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery. Visitation will be 3 – 5 p.m. at Huffman-Levander Funeral Home in Elgin and 6:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with a 7:30 p.m. wake service. Eleanor Josephine Starman, daughter of Jacob and Eleanor (Henkenius) Heil, was born June 16, 1934 on a farm southeast of Elgin, NE before moving with her family to town as a young girl. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Church and attended St. Boniface School, graduating in 1952.
After graduating, she worked as a secretary at Elgin Lumber Company.
On September 6, 1955, Eleanor married Edward H. Starman at St. Boniface Church in Elgin, NE. They lived and farmed northwest of Elgin until retiring to a new home in Elgin in 1990. They were blessed with three children: Philip, John and Ruth.
Eleanor was a lifelong member of St. Boniface Church, and long time member of St. Boniface Altar Society, St. Boniface Choir and the Scattered Neighbors extension club.
She enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, photography, embroidery, traveling with her husband, and most of all, spending time with her beloved children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her three children: Philip (Kris) Starman of Elgin; Deacon John (Kelly) Starman of Petersburg, NE; Sister Ruth Starman, OSB of the Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration in Clyde, MO;  eight grandchildren: Laura (Skyler) Schindler, Kelly Starman, Andrew (Nicole) Starman, Jeffrey (fiance Marissa Merithew), Sarah, Gregory, Peter and Matthew Starman; two great-grandchildren: Aubrey Starman and Sawyer Schindler; three sisters: Rita Wright  and Mary (George) Shoemaker, all of Denver, CO; Della Zeimens of Chadron, NE; brothers-in-law: John Penne of Columbus, NE; Herman Starman of Grand Island, NE; George Hemenway  and sister-in-law Catherine, of Clearwater, NE; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; husband Edward in 2010; two sisters: Monica Penne and Arlene (Edward) Eischeid; and one brother: Paul (Joan) Heil.
