Eagles Defeat Wheeler Central

ELGIN — Three Eagles scored in double figures as Elgin defeated Wheeler Central 68 to 32 in a rare Wednesday night matchup.

The game was played on Feb. 18 because the original date was postponed due to bad weather.

The Eagles made quick work of the Broncos as they held them to just eight first half points in building a 37 to 8 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Elgin Coach Todd Heithoff substituted freely as everyone who suited up saw action. Over the final two quarters, Elgin outscored the Broncos 31 to 24.

Leading the scoring parade for Elgin was Chris DeWald with 22 points, Nathan Niewohner had 14 and Justin Reestman contributed 10.

Alex Kinney led the Eagles in assists with four. Kinney was also tops in rebounds with eight while Niewohner was credited with six steals in the game.
