Donald L. Selting, 78 of Elgin, NE, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Heritage of Bel-Air in Norfolk.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 13, 2014 at St. Boniface Church in Elgin with Rev. Ross Burkhalter officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 229 and VFW Post 5816 of Elgin.
Visitation will be 6:00-7:30 Wednesday at the church with a 7:30 p.m. wake service. Huffman-Levander Funeral Home of Elgin is in charge of arrangements.

Donald Lee Selting was born at Elgin on April 11, 1936 to Bernard and Ervilla Henkenius Selting and passed away November 9, 2014 at Heritage of BelAir in Norfolk after a courageous two month battle with brain cancer.
While a young child, he and his parents moved to Oregon and later to Boulder, Colorado, returning to Elgin in 1947. Don graduated from St. Boniface High School with the class of 1954. He joined the Nebraska National Guard in 1954, later transferring to active duty in the US Army where he served from 1955 to 1957 in the 7th Army Transportation Corp stationed in Bamberg, Germany.
After his discharge, he attended an agricultural short course at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
He returned to Elgin where he began his farming career, purchasing a farm near the Cedar Creek east of Elgin, where he resided at the time of his death.
In 1965, Don was recognized as Antelope County Outstanding Young Farmer, and competed for the state award. He was a seed corn producer many years for Northrup King Seed. He also served on Pope John school board, as a St. Boniface Trustee and lector, and was a member of Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post 229.
On November 14, 1959, he was married to Nancy Paul of Elgin in St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin. They were blessed with five sons. Don and Nancy traveled extensively and spent the winter months in warmer climes, enjoying the fishing on the gulf coast of Texas.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy; sons Leigh (Marsha) of Laramie Wyo; Lynn (Amy) and Gene (Angie) of Elgin, Jamie (Dixie) of Fairview, MT and Joseph (Tina) of Lincoln. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren; Brian (Kelsey), Tony, Kevin, Lauren, Nicholas, Gabriel, Elizabeth, Allyson, Michael, Lexie, Jesse, Lacie, Brady, Lindsey, Samantha, Megan Selting; three great-grandchildren; Carter, Eli, and Kinley Selting and step-grandson, Thomas Bodily (Charity, Alexander, Carolyn )of Utah.
