District #18 Sets Date for Budget Hearing

Meeting for the second time in August, the District #18 Board of Education discussed numbers associated with the 2010-2011 fiscal year proposed budget which will be the subject for a public hearing next week.

The public hearing will be held on Sept. 8, beginning at 7:10 p.m. A second hearing, on the levy, will begin at 7:20 p.m. followed by the regular monthly meeting.

The board met Thursday night, Aug. 25, to discuss those numbers and to wrap up some items in preparation for closing out the 2009-2010 fiscal year. Looking at the proposed budget, Superintendent Steve Dennis told board members that the levy should be very close to the one adopted last year.

For 2010-2011, budgeted disbursements and transfers exceed $4.108 million with a necessary cash reserve of $1.2 million. Total personal and real property tax requirement for the budget is $2,432,153.51, of that number $161,616.16 is earmarked for the special building fund. The proposed tax rate for the general fund (0.727145) and special building fund (0.051758) adds up to 0.778903.
