Department of Roads Lists Upcoming Projects

Improvements to Highway 14 are scheduled soon. That’s the message the Nebraska Department of Roads gave members of the Highway 14 Association when they met earlier this month in Neligh.

An upcoming asphalt overlay project on Highway 14, from the Nance County line to Petersburg, was outlined by Ray Branstiter, NDOR District 3 operations and maintenance manager. He said the bid-letting will begin soon for the project. It will include resurfacing and drainage culverts. The highway itself will increase to 28 feet wide. It will make snow removal and shoulder repair easier.

NDOR is presently trying to keep Highway 14 safe with armor coat and hot mix patching down the middle of the road, Branstiter said.

The Petersburg to Elgin project will be in 2013. It will involve buying some rights of way. The Boone County hill will have some grading done. Visibility issues at intersections will be addressed in the project. Currently, armor coat patching and hot mix patching should get that section of road through for another year or so, Branstiter said.
