Delores K. Metz 84, of Petersburg, NE, died Sunday, February 10, 2013 at the Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home in Newman Grove, NE.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 14, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Petersburg, NE with Fr. Stan Schmit officiating. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Levander Funeral Home at Albion, followed by a 7 p.m. visitation at the church with wake services beginning at 8 p.m. Visitation will resume Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Delores Katherine Metz, the daughter of Bernard and Katherine (Turner) Tunink, was born August 12, 1928 at Elgin, Nebraska. She was baptized at St. Boniface Church in Elgin and confirmed at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Raeville. Delores received her education at St. Bonaventure Catholic School in Raeville.
Delores was united in marriage to Alfred Metz. Sr. on September 14, 1948 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Petersburg. They farmed southwest of Petersburg until 1990 when they retired and moved to Aurora. In 2003 they returned to Petersburg.
In addition to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Delores worked beside her husband on the farm. She also managed the Petersburg Legion Club for many years. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and Altar Society. Besides the special love she shared with her family, she loved to bake and cook and devoted many hours to her crafts which she enjoyed so much.
Surviving Delores are her children: Kathleen (Dan) Morgan of Albion; Alfred Metz Jr. (Carol) of Cedar Rapids; Carol (Tony) Thieman and Ronald Metz, all of Petersburg; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Marie O’Brien of Belmont, CA; Cecelia Thiem of Albion; 3 sisters-in-law Hildegarde Henn of Albion; Joan Tunink of Odebolt, IA; and Monica Tunink of Guthrie Center, IA, along with numerous relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alfred, granddaughter Joey Metz; brothers: Bernard, John, Joseph, and Francis Tunink.
