Vonda Florine Mlnarik
1917 – 2009
Vonda F. Mlnarik, 92, formerly of Ewing, NE died Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation and Care Center in Norfolk, NE.
The daughter of Fred and Vera (Hoffman) Serr, she was born September 3, 1917 at Naper, NE. She attended school at Jamison, Springview and Clearwater, Nebraska.
In 1932, she moved with her parents from Jamison, NE to a farm home south of Ewing, NE.
On May 1, 1935 she was united in marriage to James Frank Mlnarik of Ewing, NE at Rural St. John’s Catholic Rectory south of Ewing, NE. To this union three daughters and one son were born.
The first 12 years of their married lives were spent on farms south of Ewing. In 1947, she moved with her husband and family to Ewing, NE. While raising her family she was employed by several families in domestic cleaning of homes. She was employed as a cook by St. Anthony’s Hospital in O’Neill from 1971-1976.
In 1976, she retired to being a homemaker and grandmother.
Vonda actively participated in the St. Peter’s Christian Mothers in Ewing, NE and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America at St. Mary’s in Norfolk.
She is survived by three daughters: Dorla Schroeder of Creighton, NE; Donna Mackel and husband Don of Elgin, NE; Karen Mackel and husband Jim of Norfolk, NE; one son: Larry Mlnarik and wife Marilyn of Monkey Island, OK; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband James in 1992, and son-in-law Dwight Schroeder.
Funeral services were Friday, October 30, 2009 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Ewing, NE, with Rev. James Kramper officiating and burial in the parish cemetery.
Music was provided by St. Boniface Choir and accompanied by Rosie Schueths, organist.
Pallbearers were Steve Mackel, Mike Schroeder, Kelly and Todd Mlnarik, and Trevor and Ryne Battershaw.
