Marlene A. Kersten, 77 years, of Fremont, Nebraska died Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Fremont Health Medical Center in Fremont. Marlene was born April 10, 1939 in Dalton, Nebraska to Raymond and Katherine (Josten) Pelster.
She grew up on a ranch in Antelope and Wheeler County in Nebraska. She was a graduate of St. Boniface Catholic High School in Elgin, Nebraska. She attended Beauty College in Norfolk, Nebraska. Marlene married Albert “Al” Kersten on March 30, 1959 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin. She moved to Fremont and owned Marlene’s Beauty Shop in Hooper, Nebraska for a few years and then started Marlene’s Beauty Shop in Fremont and worked there for more than fifty years. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont. She loved sewing, spending time with her family and especially with her great grandson.
She is survived by her husband, Al Kersten of Fremont; son, Kevin and wife, Barb Kersten of Fremont; brothers, Raymond, Jr. and wife, Janice Pelster of Denver, Colorado, Duane and wife, Nancy Pelster of Burwell, Nebraska and Edwin Pelster of Grand Island, Nebraska; sisters, Mary Jane and husband, Bill Hoefener of York, Nebraska, Maggie and husband, Larry Siders of Fremont, and Linda and husband, Randy Jochum of Osmond, Nebraska; granddaughter, Shantell and husband, Scott Hall of Omaha; and great grandson, Preston Hall of Omaha.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral Mass was held, Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont. Father David Belt officiated.
Visitation was Monday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a rosary at 7 P.M. at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
Burial was at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.
