Louise B. Werner, 96 of Petersburg, NE passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion, NE.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, June 16, 2012 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Petersburg, NE with Rev. Stan Schmit and Rev. Ross Burkhalter officiating. Interment followed in the parish cemetery.
Huffman-Levander Funeral Home of Elgin, NE was in charge of arrangements.

Louise Barbara Velder, daughter of John and Regina (Herlitizus) Velder, was born December 10, 1915 at Raeville, NE.  She was baptized and confirmed at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church and attended St. John Berchman School in Raeville.
On July 3, 1934, Louise was united in marriage with Hugo Valentine Werner. The couple made their home by Elgin, NE where they lived until 1946. They moved to the Petersburg, NE area to rent, and eventually buy a farm. Following retirement, they moved into Petersburg.
Louise also enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, sewing, quilting, crocheting, and helping Hugo in the fields. The couple enjoyed traveling and spent their retirement years wintering in Texas. They enjoyed fishing: taking trips to Minnesota and Hawaii, along with fishing off the coast of Texas during the winters. Louise and Hugo spent every summer enjoying the cabin in the Black Hills of South Dakota with friends and family. On July 3, 2010, the couple celebrated 76 years of marriage.
Louise was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, St. John’s Altar Society, Extension Club and various card clubs. She was a past member of St. John’s Parish Council and past President of St. John’s Altar Society. Hugo and Louise were instrumental in the development of the Petersburg Senior Center in Werner Hall.
Louise is survived by her children: Della Edic of Norfolk, NE; John (Betty) Werner of Perham, MN; C.L. (Rachel) Werner of Montrose, CO; Carol (Cletus) Scholl of Columbus, NE; Lois (Jim) Bode of Petersburg, NE; LaVern Werner of Petersburg, NE; daughter-in-law Marlene Werner of Springfield, NE; 32 grandchildren; 79 great-grandchildren; 34 great-great-grandchildren; three sisters: Marie Cheatum of Elgin, NE; Evelyn Asmussen of Missouri; Julianna Asmussen of Greeley, CO; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Hugo; son Jim; parents John and Regina; one son-in-law: Carroll Edic; four brothers: Alvin, Aloysious (Bud), John Jr. and Don; four sisters: Freda Schalk, Rita Liebentritt, Lydia Glissman, and Florence Macke.
