Lori Splinter
1959 – 2012
Lori (Waid) Splinter lost her valiant four-year battle with breast cancer on December 22, 2012 at her home in Palmdale, CA with her husband, William “Bill”, and sons, Wil and Garrett, by her side.
Lori Jane was born in Albion, Nebraska on December 3, 1959 to Lauraine (Schultz) and Francis (Joe) Waid, the fifth of seven children. Lori loved music. She played solo clarinet and sang, winning superior ratings in both instrumental and voice competitions.
Lori also excelled as a student and a cheerleader. She graduated from Albion High School and continued her education at UNL. There Lori met her future husband, Bill. They were married in February of 1983 and moved to the Antelope Valley of California, first to Lancaster and later to Palmdale.
Lori was an active member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Palmdale for 28 years. She served in many capacities including outreach, visitation, and office administration. Lori was an active vocalist in the church band for many years.
In 2005, Lori was elected Vice-President of the Southwest California Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and was re-elected to a second term in 2008. As a Southwest California Synod representative, she was blessed with a trip to Ethiopia.
She also served on the Constitution Task Force, Endowment Committee, and on the Board of Directors of Lutheran Retreats, Camps, and Conferences.
Lori was one of those rare, gentle souls who uplifted everyone who met her. We were all better for having witnessed her well-lived life as a loving wife, mother, sister, and faithful servant of her Lord.
In addition to her husband and children, Lori is survived by her siblings, JoAnn Christensen of Joplin, Missouri; Brian and wife Ruthie of Seattle, Washington; Barry and wife Kathy of Lincoln, Nebraska; Michael and wife Lori of Yankton, South Dakota; Sherry and husband Thomas Mitchell of Newnan, Georgia; and Shelley and husband Charles Bode of Elgin, Nebraska, as well as seventeen nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held December 28, 2012 at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Palmdale, CA.
