Ella Mae Dozler

1934 – 2010

Ella Mae Dozler, the daughter of Richard and Marie (VonBonn) Penne, was born on May 6, 1934 in Elgin, Nebraska. She was Baptized and Confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin.

Ella Mae attended elementary school at a rural school near Elgin. She left school to go to work as nanny for the farming families in the area.

Ella Mae was united in marriage to Donald A. Dozler on April 13, 1955 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin, NE. The couple made their home eight miles west of Albion until the fall of 1990 when they moved into Albion. Ella Mae worked at the Albion Public School from 1980-1996 as a cook.

In 2008 Ella Mae moved to the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Home. It was there that she passed away on Monday, September 13, 2010 at 76 years of age.

Ella Mae was a member of the St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Albion, she was also a member of the Altar Society. 

She was a member of the VFW Legion Auxiliary and belonged to many card clubs. Ella Mae loved to play bingo, and she attended bingo every Thursday night. She also enjoyed quilting and she made a quilt for every one of her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Don; two sons; David (Lisa); Richard (Roberta) all of Albion; two daughters; Connie Asche of Beaman, IA; Cyndee (David) Merrell of St. Edward, NE; 12 grandchildren; Rebecca Dozler, Sarah (Josh) Peter, Trista, Kayla, Melissa, Macey, and Tye Dozler, Luke and Erin Asche, Allison, Blake, and Brandon Merrell; four great grandchildren; Shashannah, Jayla, Eli, Lexis; 4 sisters: Jo (Ray) Kallhoff of O’Neill; Betty (Rollie) Davidson of Columbus, NE; LaVerna (Dave) Edmister of Elkhorn, NE; Phyllis Hyde of Missouri; 2 brothers: James (Joan) Penne; Rick (Mary Ann) Penne both of Oakdale, NE; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by parents, Richard and Marie Penne; her mother and father-in law Andrew and Clara Dozler, infant sister Melinda; son-in-law Steve Asche, and a niece Kristine Dozler.

Funeral service were held Thursday, September 16, 2010, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Albion with Fr. Stan Schmit and Deacon James Schindel officiating.

Burial was at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery.
