CVA Proposes Adding More Grain Storage in Elgin

Grain bins are a dominant feature of Elgin’s skyline. The farming community may, in the next couple of years, see significant changes follow a presentation made Monday night to the Elgin City Council.

Stan Kallhoff of Central Valley Ag, presented four proposals to add additional grain storage space. The move, first discussed months ago, was made possible when CVA acquired the property which used to be location of the Grothe Grain Building. Having cleaned up the property, grass now grows there. But, its possible that in the summer of 2012 construction could begin on as many as four new grain bins which, together, could increase storage capacity by nearly one million bushels.
