NORFOLK — Elgin Public-Pope John’s goal of reaching the C-2 State Volleyball Tournament came up one match short Friday night.
Having lost just four times all season, Crofton (23-4) swept the Wolfpack 25-13, 25-12 and 25-17 to end EPPJ’s season. By virtue of the victory, the Warriors’ season continues this week at the State Tournament to be played in Grand Island.
Crofton’s height advantage all-owed the Warriors to control play at the net throughout the match. When the Warriors needed a big point, they went to 5’11” Maria Wortmann, Katie Peterson or Monica Arens (both 5’10”) and they delivered time and time again to thwart any Wolfpack momentum.
