County Valuation Drops

Valuations for tax subdivisions have been announced by Antelope County Assessor Kelly Mueller.
The valuation for Antelope County has been set at $2,459,406,353.
That number is down by more than $85 million from one year ago when the valuation was $2,545,073,947
For the City of Elgin, the valuation actually rose. The new figure is $38,940,335, up by just over $3.4 million from one year ago when the valuation was $35,531,331.
The Elgin Review collected 2018 valuation figures for School District #18 which is composed of land in Antelope, Boone and Wheeler Counties. The numbers break down as follows:
Antelope County — 2018 valuation is $631,043,838, down more than $27 million from last year’s figure of $658,290,478.
Boone County — 2018 valuation of $48,645,317. The number is up from last year’s mark of nearly $48.3 million.
Wheeler County — 2018 valuation is $18,908,422, down from one year ago when the valuation was $18,944,159.
The school district’s 2018 valuation $698,597,577, down more than $26 million from last year’s figure of $724,982,990.
“With the preliminary numbers provided by The Elgin Review on Elgin Public’s valuation some things are very clear,” District #18 Superintendent Dan Polk said. They are:
1. The land assessing and valuation process is correcting itself, as it should, and valuations are falling drastically.
2. As valuations fall, levies are going to have to go up as valuations divided by 100, times levies, give you your tax asking.
3. Where the rubber meets the road, so to speak, is the tax asking number. And even though the valuations fell dramatically, and the levies will rise in proportion….At least at Elgin, the tax asking of the patrons of the district will be less than the previous year for the fifth year in a row.
“We should still be asking for $100,000 less than we did last year and approximately $600,000 less that five years ago.” These are all very preliminary number and predictions, Polk concluded.
