Council Mulling Decision on Bowen Street Culverts

In a rare Tuesday night meeting, the Elgin City Council approved a new budget for the 2009-2010 fiscal year.

Following a public hearing, the Council voted 4-0 to approve the budget as published in the newspaper August 26.

The approved budget calls for a tax asking of $123,500, up $5,400 from one year ago. The property tax breaks down to $14,249 for bonds and the remainder, $109,251, for other purposes.

As a result, the tax levy will be 0.449872. In comparison, one year ago the tax levy was 0.436897 according to the budget document published last month in the newspaper.
