Council Hires New Librarians

Meeting last week, the Elgin City Council approved the hiring of two people to fill the position of librarian at Elgin Public Library.
With the retirement of Joyce Sullivan to commence later this month, the council approved the hiring of Barb Bode and Dianne Gunderson to share the position. Both Bode and Gunderson recently retired as teachers at Elgin Public Schools at the conclusion of the 2015-2016 school year.
In other action:
Agreement — The council approved an interlocal agreement for the Library and Antelope County. The agreement is renewed annually.
Papers sent on — Saying the state required more paperwork, Mayor Mike Schmitt said construction of a new well could begin at any time.
Website — City Clerk was given the go ahead to look into developing a webpage for the City of Elgin. According to resident Janet Koinzan, the website is a necessary element for Elgin to participate in a program called “Marketing Small Town America.” The program, she said, would be a way to help promote the community as a great place to live.
