Council Approves Summer Hires

It may say March on the calendar, but for a time Monday night the Elgin City Council was thinking about summer — summer help.
At the regular March meeting, council members reviewed applications for positions at the Elgin Swimming Pool as well as coaching positions for girls softball teams.
This time around, it didn’t take long for the hiring decisions to be made. In the space of a few minutes, the following people were hired:
Pool co-managers — Sue and Emily Vanis will again serve in that capacity, just as they did one year ago.
Lifeguards — Hired on as fulltime lifeguards were Madison Voborny, Ivy Prater, Hayley Stamp and Sharla Schindler. Kaitlyn Polk was approved as a substitute lifeguard.
Softball coaches — Bill Mescher was chosen to coach the girls 14 & under softball team. Named to coach the 12 & under softball team was Heidi Rethmeier.
All summer hires were approved on 4-0 votes.
