Community Club Makes Final Plans for ‘Wing Ding’

With the heat index over 100 degrees, the July meeting of the Elgin Community Club moved indoors to the community center.

The purpose of the meeting was to finalize plans for the first-ever ‘Wing Ding’ celebration to be held at the Elgin City Park on Saturday, July 30.

Club President Jeremy Young said the event will feature a chicken wing cookoff, games for persons of all ages, the Elgin Swimming Pool being open extended hours, as well as a beer garden, all utilizing the facilities at the park.

According to Lynell Morgan, a member of the Community Club board of directors, there will be sand volleyball, horseshoes as well as the main event, a cook off featuring chicken wings.

So far, she said, five teams are committed to participating in the cook off. “We want 10 teams,” she said as the event is just over two weeks away.
