Claudia Rosalie Schuster, 71, formerly of Elgin, passed away on Dec. 24, 2013 at the Town and Country Manor in Boerne, TX. She died of pancreatic cancer.
Claudia, daughter of George and Louise Cahoy, was born Aug. 27, 1942 at Elgin, IL. In 1943, the family returned to Elgin, NE where Claudia attended St. Boniface Grade School and High School and graduated in 1960.
On May 29, 1961, Claudia married Francis E. “Jake” Schuster of Oakdale. They were the parents of three sons. As Jake had joined the U.S. Air Force in 1960, the couple lived in a number of places: Spokane, WA where Michael and Jeff were born; Vacaville, CA; El Centro, CA where Tim was born; Elgin, NE while Jake was in Vietnam; Hawaii; Abilene, TX; the Philippines, and lastly, San Antonio, TX. Jake retired from the military in 1987.
With the boys in school, Claudia worked for the So. San Antonio Independent School District as a cafeteria worker for 8 years. She then joined the library staff as an assistant for 12 years.
Claudia had many interests. She was an avid reader possessing a large collection of books. Sewing, quilting and crafts occupied much of her time. Family and friends were recipients of treasured gifts created by her. She lovingly cared for the cats and dogs that occupied a special place in their home life. Family history and research also took a predominant place in her daily schedule until her husband’s ill health required her to devote time to caring for him.
Claudia is survived by her husband, Jake, of Boerne, TX; sons: Michael (Carol Brown) Schuster of San Antonio, TX; Jeff (Mitzi) Schuster of Boerne, TX; Tim (Lorna) Schuster of Milton-Freewater, OR; sisters; Lonnie (Frank) Heiderman of Carson City, NV; Mary Ann Cahoy (Donald E. George) of Columbus, NE; brothers-in-law: Joe (Marlene) Schuster of Omaha, NE; Dwain (Lorna) Schuster of Norfolk, NE; sister-in-law, Betty Salber of Elgin, NE; two grandchildren, one great grandchild, many nieces, nephews, cousin, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Louise Cahoy; parents-in-law William and Gertrude Schuster; sister-in-law Joyce Schuster; brother-in-law, Mel Salber; and her sister, Rita Cahoy Sandman.
A memorial service was held at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Boerne, TX on Jan. 6.
