Claude S. Schrage
1917 – 2010
Claude Steven Schrage was born on September 26, 1917 to Ferdinand and Anna (Klein) Schrage at Raeville, NE. He was the oldest of 9 children. He attended St. Bonaventure School in Raeville. On June 16, 1941 he married Josephine Thiele at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Clearwater. They made their home on a farm south of Clearwater. In 1954 he had one of the first irrigation systems in the area. Claude retired from farming in 1977.
After his retirement he went to work for Middleton Construction in Clearwater building homes. Claude was an Antelope County Supervisor and served on the Clearwater School Board. His wife Josephine passed away in 1999. He was a CCD coordinator and taught CCD and sang in the choir.
On February 24, 2001he married Vivian Watson at St. Theresa Catholic Church.
Claude had many hobbies that he enjoyed such as woodworking, farming, flower gardening, and gardening. He enjoyed his grand and great grandkids, reading books, bowling, and traveling.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Theresa’s Catholic Church since 1942; he was currently the oldest parishioner there.
Claude passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at his home.
He is survived by his wife Vivian and his children: Jeanette and husband Arlyn Selting of Bozeman, MT, Cyril and wife Jennie Schrage of Clearwater, NE, Larry and wife Sheri Schrage of Gretna, NE, Jim Schrage of Orchard, NE, and Roger Schrage, of Cheyenne, WY. Brothers and Sisters: Robert and wife Marie Schrage of Elgin, NE, Flora Hoefer of Columbus, NE, Bernette and husband Jim Raemakers of Bayard, IA, Jerome Schrage of Omaha, NE, Ferd and wife Ramona Schrage of Petersburg, NE., Sister-in-laws: Janice Schrage of Elgin, NE, and Sally. Step Brother and Sisters: Julia Powell of Mesa, AZ and Glenn and wife Maxine Worley of Tilden, NE. Grandchildren: Anne Selting, Rachel Armstrong, Amy Williams, Regina Krebs, Coleen Schrage, Anita Schrage, Kevin Schrage, Christopher Schrage, Michelle Schrage, Nicholas Schrage, Kara Schrage, Lisa Walters, Mike Schrage, Courtney Shields, and Sam Schrage. Step grandchildren Scott Leatherwood and Stacie Leatherwood. 16+ great-grandchildren and 5 step great-grandchildren, as well as many relatives, family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Josephine; Son, Steven; brothers, Raymond, Walter Schrage. Sister, Rita. Brother-in-law, Quintin Hoefer; Sister-in-law, Patricia Schrage; Step daughter, Loretta Leatherwood; Step brother-in-law Johnny, Ernest, Albert Worley. Step sister-in-law Maxine Dow.
Funeral Services for Claude S. Schrage age 93, of Clearwater were held Monday, December 6, 2010, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Clearwater with Father James Kramper, officiating.
Visitation was Sunday, December 5, 2010 with a wake service at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Clearwater.
Music was provided by Rita Kester, Organist and St. Theresa’s Church Choir. Burial was in St. Theresa’s Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Kevin Schrage, Christopher Schrage, Michael Schrage, Nicholas Schrage, Lisa Walters, Anita Schrage, Amy Williams, and Rachel Armstrong. Honorary Pallbearers were Kara Schrage, Regina Krebs, Coleen Schrage, Anne Selting, Courtney Shields, Sam Schrage, and Michelle Schrage.
