City Moving Forward With Plans For New Test Well

Meeting Monday night, April 6, Mayor Mike Schmitt and the Elgin City Council finally got some “good news” concerning the search for a new water well.
City Engineer John Zwingman shared information about a water bearing formation approximately 400 feet below the surface which might provide the source for a new water well.
The City has been searching for a new well site for many months now, after learning one of their water wells had arsenic levels above acceptable standards, according to the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality.
Since that time, City officials have been working with Zwingman and his firm Advanced Consulting Engineering Services to find a new well site.
Last year, one location was found to be used as a test well site, but water samples did not meet the necessary criteria to continue there.
