Boys’ State Selections Announced

Students from Pope John Central Catholic and Elgin Public Schools have been chosen to join nearly 400 other high school juniors at the American Legion Cornhusker Boys’ State.
PJCC’s Austin Meis and EPS’ Alois Warner have been chosen to attend the event to be held May 31 through June 6 on the campus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Meis, the son of Ben and Anna Meis, will be sponsored by AmericanLegion Post #229. Warner, the son of Buddy and Darlene Warner, will be sponsored by the Elgin Community Club.
The annual citizen-ship program, sponsored by the Nebraska American Legion, is designed to provide youths with a better understanding of how city, county and state governments operate.
Boys’ State is set up as a functional “51st state” and each boy learns how government subdivisions operate by actually doing the job. Special lectures and addresses will be delivered by experienced public officials and professional leaders including Governor Pete Ricketts and Supreme Court Chief Justice John M. Gerrard.
National acclaimed motivational speaker JoAnne Owens-Nauslar is also scheduled to address the group.
