‘Bash in the Burg’ is Saturday

Petersburg’s third annual ‘Bash in the Burg’ will be held Saturday, Aug. 13.

The event, with proceeds to benefit Petersburg Fire Hall Renovations as well as the 2012 Petersburg Q125 celebration, will begin in the afternoon and continue throughout the evening.

Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for childen, and persons under five years of age will be admitted free to the festivities.

This year’s ‘Barbecue Challenge’ will feature $1,100 in cash prizes. Grilling will get underway at 8 a.m. Judging will start at 4 p.m. and the sampling/people’s choice will begin at 6 p.m. and continue till gone.

The third annual ‘Brew Competition’ featuring homemade beer, wine and other concoctions, will get underway during the afternoon. Judging will begin at 4 p.m. with the public invited to sample the fare starting at 6 p.m. There will be $500 in prizes with awards for first and second place.

New this year will be a homemade bread competition with awards being given to the top two entries. Judging starts at 4 p.m. and sampling begins at 6 p.m.

The Petersburg Fire Hall will be the site of casino games from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Games will include Black Jack and Texas Hold ‘Em. A $10 entry fee will be assessed to each participating player. All ages and spectators are welcome to watch at the fire hall.

Kids activities will begin at noon. All ages are welcome. Also, a lunch stand will be available, beginning at noon.

The event will close with a street dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Playing at the dance will be Thudwinker.

Other events planned for the ‘Bash’ include a one mile kids fun run at 9 a.m. and a two mile adult run starting at 9:30 a.m.

The celebration is being sponsored by the Petersburg Community Club.
