Arthur A. Knust 85, of Elgin, NE, died Monday, September 30, 2013 at the Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home at Newman Grove, NE.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, October 4, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at Petersburg with Fr. Stan Schmit officiating. Interment followed in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery at Petersburg with Military Rites conducted by American Legion Post #334 of Petersburg, NE.

Arthur Albert Knust, son of Edward Michael and Josephine Elizabeth (Rollman) Knust, was born July 4, 1928 at Humphrey, NE. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Francis Church in Humphrey, and attended school at Platte County District #57 through the eighth grade. He started working for local farmers until he moved with his family to Petersburg, NE in 1948.
Art worked at the Hall Ranch until entering the United States Army on November 16, 1950 and served as a combat tank retriever in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on September 13, 1952 and returned to the Petersburg area and worked on the Pelster Ranch for a few years. He then went to work on the Grothe Ranch in Wheeler County and later the Grothe Feed Lot west of Elgin, NE. He worked there until retiring in 2003.
Art entered the Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home in Newman Grove in 2004, and it was there that he passed away Monday, September 30, 2013 at the age of 85.
He was a hard worker and enjoyed working with cattle. He was always ready for a good game of cards, and loved spending time with his family.
Art is survived by eight siblings: Mary Ellen (Duane) Frauendorfer of Lindsay, NE; Lucille (Leo) Kalinowski of Columbus, NE; Lorraine Seier of Petersburg; Mark (Joan) Knust of Albion, NE; Doris (Ken) Schrad of Elkhart, IN; Joseph (Catherine) Knust of Petersburg, NE; John (Donna) Knust of Petersburg, NE; Janet (Bob) Klein of Spalding, NE; three sisters-in-law: Patricia Grosserode and husband Steve of Lincoln, NE; Marlyss Knust of Omaha, NE; Diana Bailey and husband Bill of Neligh, NE; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mike and Josephine; three brothers: William, Paul and David Knust; a sister: Alice Raemakers; three brothers-in-law: Delmer Seier, Frank Pfiefer, and Edward “Bud” Raemakers.
