Antelope County Coalition Gets New Name

Individuals from Antelope County began meeting to address the issue of underage drinking following a Town Hall meeting, hosted by North Central District Health Department (NCDHD) in June 2008.

Since that time the group has broadened their focus to alcohol misuse across the lifespan, and more recently to include all substance abuse prevention.

On March 29, 2010 the Coalition met and reviewed the ideas for a new name which were submitted by 2 of the high schools in the county.

Six members  were present and the majority voted in favor of the Neligh High School’s submission,  A.C.D.C. (Antelope County Does Care)   to reflect the focus of the group, which is helping people of all ages make wise choices in regard to the use of legal and illegal substances.

This coalition is one of 7 coalitions formed in the 9 counties served by NCDHD (Antelope, Boyd, Brown, Cherry, Keya Paha, Knox, Holt, Pierce and Rock).

Through the combined efforts of NCDHD and North Central Community Care Partnership (NCCCP), needed dollars have been made accessible to these counties to assess and act on the results of those assessments in regard to the misuse of substances.

The 9 county substance abuse prevention coalition, NCCCP Area Substance Abuse Prevention (A.S.A.P.) coalition has been successful in obtaining grants and contracts through the Nebraska Health & Human Services Department, Federal resources and Region 4 Behavioral Health Services.
