Anderson, Hemenway Led Wolfpack Wrestlers During 2010-11 Season

The Elgin Public-Pope John Wolfpack wrestling team capped a tremendous season last month with two wrestlers earning medals at the State Wrestling Tournament in Omaha.

Senior Nathan Anderson wrapped up a 40-4 season by wrestling in the finals of the 135-pound class. He finished second, bringing home a silver medal.

Teammate Anthony Hemenway, wrestling at 140 pounds, earned a sixth place medal at state. Hemenway finished the season with a 36-11 record.

Altogether, the team had five state qualifiers. The others were Sebastian Janssen, Derek Henn and Jared Seier.

Letter winners on the team were Brett Kinney, Harley Janssen, Tyler Childers, Sebastian Janssen, Austin Heying, Derek Henn, Nathan Anderson, Anthony Hemenway, Shane Vanis, Shane Beckman and Jared Seier.

Anderson led the team in points (215), take downs (48), near F3 (16), wins (40) and pins (29). Seier led the team in escapes (23). Austin Heying was tops in reversals (18).Hemenway topped the team in near F2 (20).

Head coach this year was Doug Jones, assisted by Mike Zegers. Student managers were Trent Bauer and Andy Fangman. Statisticians were Mallory Fangman and Morgan Childers.
