Mass of Christian Burial for Alice Tunink, age 97, of Neligh, Nebraska was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2018, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Neligh. Burial followed at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Neligh. Visitation was held Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the church, with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service.
Brockhaus-Harlan Funeral Home in Tilden, Nebraska was in charge of arrangements.
Alice died Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at Community Pride Care Center in Battle Creek, Nebraska.

Alice Irene (Mitchell) Tunink, daughter of Lorenz and Rose (Gilsdorf) Mitchell, was born July 27, 1920, at the old Mitchell farm near Raeville, Nebraska. She attended school at St. Clara and Cedar Creek country schools, and graduated from the eighth grade at St. Boniface. On June 1, 1948, Alice was united in marriage to Anthony Tunink at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin, Nebraska. They were blessed with three children, Janet, Arlyn, and Dorine “Dodi”.
Alice and Anthony lived in Elgin the first year of their marriage. Then they lived and worked with Anthony’s father. They lived on a farm on the Boone/Antelope county line until moving to Neligh in 1981.
Alice was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin and St. Francis Catholic Church in Neligh. She worked during her early years at Elgin Sewing Project (NYA), Elgin Dry Cleaners, and then at Daylight Donuts after her husband’s death. Alice was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Alice is survived by her children, Jan (Steve) Jurgens of Gibbon, Nebraska, Arlyn Tunink and Dodi (Doug) Jessen all of Neligh, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in April of 1982; brothers, Ralph, Lloyd, Wayne, and Francis; sister, Edna Schwarting; and grandson, Christopher Lee Jessen.
