EPPJ Girls Ready To Return To Winning Record — Basketball Preview

ELGIN — The Elgin Public-Pope John girls varsity basketball team will open the season Friday night.
They will host Niobrara-Verdigre in their season opener at St. Boniface Gymnasium.
New faces with new roles will help to define success for the Wolfpack this season.
Coach Randy Eisenhauer faces the prospect of replacing several starters from last year’s team which finished the season with an 8-14 record.
Returning are letter winners Jenna Parks, Baylee Wemhoff, Liz Selting, Nikki Beckman and Jill Schindler.
Parks, Wemhoff and Selting started on last year’s team. One year ago, Parks averaged just over nine points per game and led the team in steals (73) and assists (84). She finished second on the team in rebounds (104).
Wemhoff, as a freshman, averaged 10.2 points per game from her shooting guard position. She was second on the team in made three-pointers (19) and made 57 of 96 free throw attempts.
Directing the offense, Wemhoff finished with 73 assists (second on the team).
Another sophomore, Selting was second on the team in rebounds with 82.
“We have a good core of kids coming back and look to be competitive throughout the year,” Coach Randy Eisenhauer said.
