Final Volleyball Stats For Wolfpack Announced

Fans of volleyball didn’t have to travel far to see one of the best volleyball teams in the state.
Elgin Public-Pope John featured some of the best volleyball players in northeast Nebraska. Under the guidance of Tina Thiele-Blecher and assistants Sandi Henn and Emily Borer, the Wolfpack put together a 26-5 season, Their only losses were to Stuart (2), St. Mary’s (2) and Crofton in the district championship game. Those three foes qualified for the state tournament. All three reached the finals and one, St. Mary’s, won the Class D-1 championship match to cap an undefeated season.
The Wolfpack earned the respect of the Cardinals to the point that, after the season concluded, St. Mary’s sent the Wolfpack red roses complimenting them on their great season, saying that the play of the Wolfpack made them a better team.
The Wolfpack’s season record was the best ever by an EPPJ team, with a winning percentage of .839.
They posted a 10-2 record at home, 12-3 on the road and 4-0 at neutral sites.
Two members of the team, Liz Selting and Jenna Parks earned first team all-NVC honors.
Selting led the team in ace serves with 42, Parks had 31 and sophomore Jordan Mescher recorded 30.
At the net, the Wolfpack produced 837 kills during the season. Leading the way were Selting (284), Parks (213), Terri Seier (155) and Hayley Stamp (99). Parks posted 293 set assists to lead the squad, sophomore Baylee Wemhoff had 262.
Leading the team in serve receive was Mescher with 340, Sharla Schindler recorded 206.
Seier led the team in solo blocks with 67, the next closest was Parks with 21.
The Wolfpack had five players with more than 100 digs. They were Selting (196), Parks (194), Taylor Schumacher (194), Wemhoff (146) and Mescher (143).
