Memorial services for Crystal Merchen, age 75, of Petersburg, will be 10:30 A.M., Saturday, October 25, 2014, at the United Methodist Church in Elgin.
Inurnment will be at a later date in the Beaverview Cemetery at Crofton.
She passed away Friday afternoon, October 17, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Center in Atkinson. Memorials may be made to the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Biglin’s Mortuary in O’Neill.
Crystal is survived by her step-daughter, Janice Nichols and husband Chris of Columbus, and four grandchildren: Karissa, Aliya, Cade and Laura, one brother: Leon Thompson and wife Karen of Atkinson, and one sister-in-law: Laura Thompson of Hartington.
Crystal was born August 6, 1939 on a farm at Wynot, Nebraska to Chris and Bessie (Nelson) Thompson. She had a Master’s Degree in Special Education and was a teacher her entire career. She had received her Bachelor of Arts degree and her Master of Arts degree from Wayne State College. She married Don Merchen on July 3, 1983 at Lindy, Nebraska and he died July 25, 2014.
She was a member of the ABC Club at Petersburg, Nebraska.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Don Merchen and her brother: Byron Thompson.
