New Community Sign Installed, More Than $20,000 Raised

The new Elgin Community Club message board is up and greeting those driving through Elgin. The much-needed upgrade was completed last Wednesday. Event messages, the date/time/temperature and other community services will be posted daily on the digital message board.  However, one final detail remains to be done.
The Community Club is still a few thousand dollars short of the complete amount needed for the sign. Many businesses and several funding organizations have been generous in helping donate to the new sign.
The sign was created by Love Signs out of Norfolk.
So far, more than $20,000 has been raised by club members for the new sign, leaving just $5,113.03 to be raised yet to completely pay off the bill.
The total cost of the sign, including installation, is $25,463.03.
The City of Elgin is the largest donor, having contributed $5,000 from city sales tax funds with just one stipulation — that the sign remain in its current location which the Community Club readily agreed to. Other donations received so far are:
• Richard Kalvelage Gift Trust — $2,500
• Antelope County (promotional fund) — $1,500
• Elgin Ko-Ed Group (EKG) — $1,000
• Invenergy — $1,000
• Sapp Brothers Petroleum — $750
• Lordemann Insurance — $500
Additional funds have been pledged. Those donors are:
• Central Valley Ag/Land O’Lakes — $3,800
• Elgin Area Community Foundation — $2,500
• Dean’s Market — $500
• The Elgin Review — $500
• Bank of Elgin — $500
• Town & Country Veterinary Clinic — $500
One of the unique facets of the sign is being able to program it from City Hall without having to use a land line connection. That was one of the key considerations in going with Love Signs, another was the training provided by staff from Love Signs.
If you or your business would like to help the club with those final dollars needed, donations may be dropped off to club treasurer Anne Parks at the Bank of Elgin or mailed to Elgin Community Club, PO Box 277, Elgin, NE 68636.
