School Board Approves ADA Ramp For New Bleachers

The District #18 Board of Education took two more steps toward improving the place where champions play — Elgin Field.
Meeting Thursday night, the board voted 5-0 (absent from the meeting was board member Ryan Reestman) to approve Kallhoff Electric to provide the electrical service for the new lighting system being installed around the field before the start of the 2014 football season. Later, the board, by the same vote margin, approved the purchase of an ADA ramp for the new football bleachers at a cost of just over $6,600.
Regarding the electrical service, Kallhoff Electric submitted the low bid of $3,200 to install the necessary panel and breakers to supply power to the new lighting system. Also bidding the project was Midwest Electrical Services, whose bid, apples to apples, was $3,800.
In making the motion to approve Kallhoff Electric’s bid, board member Robert Hoefer stipulated that Kallhoff Electric have the option to back out if he could not meet the requirements of Midwest Electrical Services.
Regarding the ADA ramp, the board was presented with two options from Heartland Seating. One was to create a ‘U’ ramp, the other a ‘L’ ramp. The board, heeding board member Steve Heithoff’s recommendation, went with the ‘U’ ramp. The ‘U’ ramp would require less concrete.
