Movie ‘Nebraska’s’ Elgin Scene Featured On Academy Awards

Anyone who watched the ‘Oscars’ Monday night may have noticed a familiar sight during the three and one-half hour telecast.
The movie ‘Nebraska’ was up for six awards Sunday night, but came up empty.
However, during the announcement of the nominees for best supporting actress, a clip from the movie was shown which Elgin residents recognized as being shot when film crews were here.
The scene featured actress June Squibb playing the role of Kate Grant, acerbic wife of Woody. It was shot at the Elgin cemeteries where she stands near the head stone of “Keith White” and what follows is movie history.
Off in the distance, clearly visible, is the farmstead of Kevin and Pam Dinslage.
