Funeral services for Norbert “Bud” Borer, 79, of Norfolk will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Christ Lutheran Church with Reverend Chip Winter officiating.
Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 16, VFW Post 1644, and the Nebraska National Guard Honor Guard.  Visitation will be Wednesday evening, February 26, from 4-8 p.m. at Home for Funerals, Norfolk, Nebraska.
Mr. Borer died Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Heritage of Bel Air.
Norbert (Bud) Borer was born on July 12, 1934 to Louis & Clara (Ludden) Borer in rural Madison County.
He was baptized at St Leonard’s Catholic Church in Madison, NE and attended Boone County rural schools.
He served in the Army from 1954-1956 and was on the Detail for Dwight D Eisenhower. In 1970 he was confirmed and joined Christ Lutheran Church in Norfolk, NE.
He married Marilyn Vollbrecht on April 16, 1964. They lived in Norfolk and had 5 children. Robert Borer of Norfolk, Bill & Cindy (Emory) Borer of Ft Collins, CO, Jeff & Heather (Barg) Borer of Norfolk, Kevin Borer of Norfolk, and Heidi & Jay Beltz of Norfolk.
Bud worked as a farm hand for many years. He was employed by Warrick’s Tire and Retreading, Firestone, and Jerry’s Campers all in Norfolk.
He also held several part-time jobs in addition to his full-time jobs. In his later years he had his own business of mowing lawns and clearing snow for many residents of Norfolk. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed calling bingo at the VFW and American Legion.
Throughout his life he enjoyed tinkering with anything mechanical, fishing with family, and loved working with his hands including gardening.
Bud loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn, his children, 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Marge Whitten of Albion; sister, Arlene Nissen and husband LaVern of Petersburg; sister-in law, Donna Borer of Grand Island; brother, Vern Borer and wife Eleanor of Lincoln; brother, Bill and wife Martie Borer of Norfolk; brother, Jim Borer of Albion, and many nieces and nephews
Preceded in death by his parents; sister Mary Ewing and husband Warren of Lincoln; sister Cordelia (died in infancy); brother, Ray of Grand Island; brother-in-law, Gradon Whitten; and one grandson.
