The Antelope County Board of Supervisors took steps last week which could have an impact on Elgin as well as all other county residents in regards to dogs.
On a five-to-zero vote (supervisors Merlin Bolling and Larry Baker were absent), the supervisors approved the designation of Sheriff Bob Moore to serve as the county’s animal control authority. He was recommended for the position by County Attorney Joe Abler.
Moore will be part of a committee which will also include Neil Williby, LeRoy Kerkman and Harlan Brandt who will sit as ‘judge and jury’ to hear from dog owners should their dog be labeled dangerous.
Abler told the supervisors dogs will be labeled “dangerous” if they have “killed or inflicted harm on a human being or domestic animal.”
