Elgin FFA Wins Numerous Awards at State Convention

Elgin FFA students were recognized for their outstanding achievements last week at the State FFA Convention.
Mallory Fangman was named 2013 State FFA Champion in Hospitality, Restaurant and Tourism Management Proficiency.
Local CDE results were:
Ag mechanics team of Lee Bartak, Trent Hoefer, Tyler Childers & Brett Kinney were 11th overall and Lee Bartak placed 25th individually, receiving a blue ribbon. Kinney and Hoefer also received a red ribbon.
The floriculture team of Mallory Fangman, Corin Pelster, Morgan Childers, and Baylie Schiltmeyer placed 17th overall. Fangman was 15th overall in floriculture, receiving a purple ribbon. Childers and Schiltmeyer also received white ribbons.
The agriscience team of Dylan Behnk, Dylan Widger, Alois Warner & Karissa Dicke placed in the top 25 percent with Widger placing fifth overall and receiving a purple ribbon.
In Agronomy, Blake Anderson and Tanner Welding received a red ribbon while Trent Hoefer received a white ribbon. In Natural Resources Dylan Widger received a blue ribbon while Jon Meis received a red ribbon. In Meat Evaluation, Alex Grosserode received a white ribbon. And in Junior. Livestock Judging Jon Meis received a white ribbon.
Trent Bauer was third in state for his proficiency in Small Animal Care and Management – Entrepreneurship,
Advisor Julia Schwartz received an Honorary State Degree, Corin Pelster and Devon Baum were elected into the Ag Issues Academy.
Blake Anderson, Tyler Childers, Devon Baum, Alex Grosserode, Trent Hoefer, Julianna Dunn, Michael Braband, Garet Schindler, Cordell Waterbury and Shane Beckman all received their State FFA Degrees.
Devon Baum and Garet Schindler were also Star Finalists in Production and Placement. They, along with their parents and Mrs. Schwartz were treated to a special supper and presentation Friday evening and then recognized on stage at Pershing Auditorium for their accomplishments.
Up next for the FFA members is chapter officer interviews on Tuesday, April 16 with the banquet on Thursday, April 18 in the EPS gym. During the banquet attendees will have an opportunity to purchase potted plant arrangements made by FFA members using plants purchased for the greenhouse. The rest of the plants will be on sale the week before graduation.
