March 20, 2013 by lmorgan

An era in the storied history of football in Elgin is coming to an end.
Wolfpack Head Coach Carlie Wells announced Tuesday he is resigning at the end of the school year to accept an administrative position at Perkins County School. Wells will be the head football coach of the Plainsmen, a C-2 school which plays 11-man football. His other duties will include serving as athletic director, assistant principal as well as handling some physical education classes.
He said he informed school officials at District #18 on Monday. On Tuesday, he gathered the football team together to break the news. “It was kind of emotional,” he said about the meeting with the players.
Wells has been with Elgin Public Schools for 17 years, where he began his teaching career.
The family will move to Grant sometime after school gets out.
District #18 will be looking to fill Wells’ position sometime in the coming weeks. The school board will also have a vacancy to fill in the future as Kim Wells currently serves on the school board.
Last November, Wells led the Wolfpack to their second state football championship in as many years.   E-R file photo
