Darlene E. Schindler, 89, of Elgin passed away peacefully, Friday, February 8, 2013 at her Elgin farm home with her children at her side.
Services were held Tuesday at St Boniface Catholic Church with the Rev. Ross Burkhalter officiating and burial in the parish cemetery.
Huffman-Levander Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangments.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Elgin Public Library and the Elgin Fire & Rescue Dept.

Darlene Elizabeth Heithoff, daughter of Ben and Margaret (Beckman) Heithoff was born April 21, 1923, on a farm east of Elgin. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Church. She attended District 110 for 3 years and then attended elementary and HS at St. Boniface School, graduating in 1942. She then worked in Norfolk at the Montgomery Wards Clothing Store as Asst. Mgr. and later at Prenger’s Restaurant.
On April 26, 1944, Darlene was united in marriage to Max Schindler at St. Boniface Church in Elgin. They made their home on a farm southwest of Elgin and lived there for nearly 60 years. To this union, ten children were born. Max passed in January of 1992.
Darlene was a member of St. Boniface Alter Society and Domestic Arts Club.
She enjoyed reading, gardening, flowers and cooking. She loved spending time with her family which involved all the holidays, Sunday dinners, playing cards, camping at the NE State Parks with her grandchildren and accompanying her children on many US trips through the years. She was a very devoted wife and mother.
She is survived by her children: Marilyn Sehi(Dave)of Clearwater, Noreen Miller(Neil) of Milw., Wisc., Glen Schindler(Louise) of Elgin, Lois Coyne(Jerry) of Omaha, Alice Holtz(Dan) of Nebraska City, Janie Score(Randy-deceased), Dale Schindler(Renee), Leroy Schindler(Kathy) all of Elgin, Steve Schindler(Deb) of Algona, Iowa and Annette Snodgrass(Tom) of Dallas, TX., 31 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, brother Mel Heithoff , sister-in-law Jenelda Dittrich along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Darlene is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Leroy, Ray Heithoff, husband Max, son-in-law Randy Score, sister-in-law Dorothy Heithoff.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Bill Sehi, Nathan Miller, Josh Schindler, Max Coyne, Jon Holtz, Jim Score, Corey Schindler, Travis Beel, Peyton Schindler and Tom Snodgrass.
