Veterans Day Program to be Held Monday

The actions of military veterans will be celebrated and honored during the annual Veterans Day program this year.
The event will be held on Monday, Nov. 12, in the gymnasium at Elgin Public School. The program is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
VFW and American Legion members will advance the colors. Members of the junior Legion Auxiliary as well as third graders will lead the ‘Pledge of Allegiance.’
Special music will be performed by the EPS Band. Among the selections to be performed will be the “Star Spangled Banner,” “Anchors Aweigh” and “God Bless America.” Also the combined choir of St. Boniface Elementary and Elgin Public will perform “This is Still The Land of The Free.”
EPS Principal Adam Patrick will recognize veterans during the program.
This year the Veterans Day Address will be given by Ken Meyer.
Meyer is a 1961 graduate of St. Ludger Academy of Creighton.
In his senior year, he enlisted in the Army National Guard, but before attending Basic Training, he enlisted in The US Air Force, in February of 1962.
He served during the Vietnam Police Action. He was stationed at Headquarters SAC in Omaha, which is now called Stratcom. He was honorably discharged in April 1965.
Meyer is a member of The American Legion Post #74 of Creighton. He
has served as Commander of that Post and has also held the offices of District 2 Vice Commander and District 2 Commander of The American
Legion. He is presently serving on The American Legion Department Athletic Committee.
The combined choir of Elgin Pulbic & Pope John XXIII Central Catholic will, towards the end of the program, perform “America The Beautiful.”
Scheduled to perform “Taps” this year are Brett Kinney and Zach Polk.
All senior citiens and veterans are invited to eat at the Elgin Community Center following the program.
