Familiar Foe Coming to Town for Playoff Opener

A familiar foe will be coming to Elgin Thursday afternoon to face the Wolfpack in the opening round of the D-1 State Football Playoffs.
The Franklin Flyers, coached by Travis Tarman, will be the Wolfpack’s opening round opponent when the teams take the field for a 4 p.m. kickoff. Gates will open one hour before kickoff.
Last year the Wolfpack defeated the Flyers 54 to 13 in the opening round of the playoffs which culminated in the first state championship for EPPJ Coach Carlie Wells.
The Flyers enter the game with a 5-3 record. Playing in the Twin Valley Conference, the Flyers only losses were to Arapahoe, Bruning-Davenport and McCool Junction. Those three teams have a combined record of 22-2, meaning the Flyers have played some good teams this season. Franklin posted victories of Alma, Wilcox-Hildreth, Red Cloud, Heartland and Harvard. The Flyers, surprisingly, scored the same number of points that they allowed over the course of the season (315). They averaged just over 39 points per game on both offense and defense.
