St. Boniface Elementary to Relocate to Pope John School

October 5, 2012 by lmorgan

What began with a three-year Strategic Planning effort and feasibility study has recently resulted in the decision to relocate St. Boniface Elementary School in Elgin to a designated area of Pope John XXIII Central Catholic facility beginning in the Fall 2013.  The process began with a 2009 survey that was sent to parishioners of St. Bonaventure of Raeville, St. Boniface of Elgin, St. Francis of Neligh, St. John the Baptist of Petersburg, St. John of rural Clearwater, St. Theresa of Clearwater, as well as St. Peter in Ewing, Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Tilden, and the alumni of Pope John XXIII Central Catholic.
The study showed that the combination of decreasing population in rural Nebraska and increasing costs associated with maintaining the large building (utility costs, insurance, general upkeep) was causing a drain on resources that the Strategic Planning Committee felt were best spent on actual student education.  “This modification will strengthen our local Catholic schools and ensure that the tradition of strong Catholic school education will continue in this area for years to come,” they noted in a press release.
