Neligh Old Mill Days Begins Friday

Antelope County’s only Fourth of July celebration will begin Friday and continue for five nights.
The Neligh Young Men’s Club will again sport the 40th year of the Old Mill Days celebration which will culminate with a fireworks display on July 4.
The celebration kicks off Friday night, June 29, with a cruise night and movie which will conclude with participats visiting the drive-in theater at dusk.
Among the other items on the schedule are:
Saturday, June 30
• Riverside Park will host a demolition derby in front of the grandstand. Competitiion will feature cars from the 1980s and newer, fullsize no weld and full size pickups. Pits will open at 2 p.m. A calcutta and derby are scheduled to start at 5 p.m. A raffle sponsored by NYMC will be held. The winner will have an opportunity to drive the NYMC car in the feature race of the evening.
A beer garden will be open, starting Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. Live entertainment will be part of the festivities after the derby.
Sunday, July 1
A Sunday morning pancake feed will be held at the Riverside Park pavilion, starting at 8 a.m. and continuing til 1 p.m.
The American Legion Riders will be sponsoring a poker run that morning, Participants will meet at the pavilion beginning at 9 a.m.
Tuesday, July 3
A scavenger hunt will be held, starting at 7 p.m. on the west side of the courthouse. Also during the day there will be sidewalk sales. That evening, a street dance will be held from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. featuring “Dylan and the Dirt Road Detour.”
Wednesday, July 4
The local Lions Club will serve breakfast and lunch at the Neligh Senior Center, beginning at 7 a.m. The courthouse lawn will be the site of an ice cream social, starting at 11 a.m.
Also in the morning will be a fishing contest beginning at 9 a.m. at Fred Penn Park. The annual parade will begin at noon. Another popular event are the stoplight drags at the airport. The drags will run from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The main event of the evening will be the fireworks display at the airport, beginning at dark.
