BREAKING NEWS!!!

A special meeting of the District #18 Board of Education will be held Friday evening, Oct. 24, to accept the resignation of Superintendent Gayla Fredrickson.

The Elgin Review learned late Wednesday morning that an attorney representing Fredrickson submitted her resignation letter to the school district.

Fredrickson has been on medical leave since last Spring. Last August, the school board hired Lee Hall from Shelton to serve a 60-day contract as interim superintendent while waiting for Fredrickson to return. Earlier this month, the school board approved a 60-day extension of that contract to run through the end of November.

With Wednesday’s developments, Friday night’s special meeting will allow the board to formally accept her resignation and to approve a settlement agreement. At the October school board meeting, the board went into closed session to discuss a possible settlement agreement involving Fredrickson.

Also at Friday night’s meeting, the board is expected to approve a new superintendent’s contract for Hall.

The meeting, open to the public, will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the distance learning room at the high school.
