Kenneth Leo Krause, 76 of Elgin, NE, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at the Boone County Health Center in Albion, NE.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin, NE with Reverend Ross Burkhalter officiating. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery. Visitation will be 4:30-7:30 a.m. Friday at the church with a 7:30 p.m. wake service.
Kenneth Leo Krause was born in Elgin, NE on September 27, 1935, the son of Henry and Gertrude Jasper Krause. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Boniface Catholic Church. Kenneth attended St. Boniface Elementary and High School and graduated in 1954. He worked at various jobs after graduation; then joined the Army in 1955 and served with the Military Police for two years in Korea. After his discharge he worked at the Elgin Mills for ten years, and then worked for Schmitt Construction.
Kenneth started as a sub rural mail carrier in 1974. In 1984 he was assigned the regular carrier’s mail route and drove the route until his retirement in 2001.
He married Loretta (Lori) Beck on March 14, 1959 and they have made Elgin their home ever since. He served on several St. Boniface Church committees and the Elgin Chamber of Commerce. He sang in the St. Boniface choir for over 40 years. He was a volunteer fireman for more than 35 years and was a charter member of the EMT squad and served for 20 years. He announced the football games for both Pope John XXIII Central Catholic High School and Elgin Public School for many years until 1992 when health reasons forced him to quit.
He is survived by wife Lori, children Leah (Todd) Erb, Jacquelyn (Kenneth) Luettel, Kevin (Julie) Krause, and Denise (Bryan) Hilson, 17 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Patricia (Pasqual) Alessandra, and Barb Stonebraker; two brothers, James (Anne) and Thomas (Ione). He is preceded in death by one daughter, Renee, parents, one brother, Gail, one sister-in-law, Kate (Donner), and two brothers-in-law, Mike Philben, and Delbert Stonebraker.
