Wolfpack Defeat Ord to Advance in Postseason

O’NEILL — Sweet dreams are made of this.
Elgin Public-Pope John punched their ticket to the C2-5 District final with a scintillating 62 to 59 victory over Ord in the sub-district final played Thursday night at O’Neill High School.
Junior Chelsi Mescher scored her team’s final seven points in the last 1:38 of the game after Ord took the lead. Then in the game’s final seconds, the Wolfpack denied Ord’s Megan Alexander a chance to tie the game. Carey Eischeid forced Alexander into an off-balance shot and Mescher rebounded the errant shot and dribbled out the remaining ticks on the clock. As the buzzer sounded, it set off a celebration on the court as Wolfpack players jumped and screamed. In the stands fans celebrated in equal measure.
For most of the game the Wolfpack held the upper hand against the top-seeded Chanticleers. Tied 6-all, the Wolfpack scored eight unanswered points, all by Stephanie Bode. Fouled on a three-point attempt, she made all three free throws to give EPPJ an eight-point lead.
