Funeral services for Roger Whitwer, age 62 of Tilden, Nebraska, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Tilden with Reverend Ross Burkhalter as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery at Tilden with military honors will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7603 and American Legion Post 170, both of Tilden.
Visitation will be Friday, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. Wake Service, all at Brockhaus-Harlan Funeral Home in Tilden.
Roger died Sunday, February 12, 2012, at his home.
Roger Ray Whitwer, son of Ralph and Irma (Brandstetter) Whitwer, was born July 20, 1949, at Tilden, Nebraska. He grew up in the Tilden community, and graduated from Tilden High School in 1967. Roger served his country in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970, and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. Following his Honorable Discharge, Roger returned to the Tilden area, where he was an active cattle order buyer. Roger loved spending his time at the sale barns throughout northeast Nebraska, attending cattle auctions. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and American Legion Post 170, both of Tilden.
Roger is survived by his sisters, Jane (Dean) Bretschneider of Springview, Nebraska, and Judy (Dennis) Pelster of Burwell, Nebraska; as well as nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Irma Whitwer; and brothers, Ronn Whitwer and Ken Whitwer.
