Poulsen to be Inductged into EPS Hall of Fame

Elgin Public Schools is proud to release the name of the recent inductee to the Elgin Public School Hall of Fame.

Jeremy Poulsen, a 1999 graduate of Elgin Public School, will be inducted Tuesday, February 7, at the Elgin Public-Pope John Basketball game.

Poulsen received numerous letters and several distinguished awards throughout his involvement in football, wrestling, track and baseball at EPS. He also holds a variety of records in wrestling.

On the football field, Jeremy was a two-year letter winner and was an all conference player at running back and helped his team qualify for the state playoffs.

In track Jeremy was a two-year letter winner.

On the wrestling mat is where Poulsen stood out. While wrestling for the Eagles he qualified four times for the state tournament. Three of the four times he was the district champion while qualifying.

As a freshman he finished as the district runner up and he finished with a fifth place medal at 103 pounds in the state tournament.

From that point on, he would be undefeated at the state meet. In 1997, he won the 103-pound title, 1998 the 112-pound title, and in 1999 he was crowned as the champion of the 125-pound weight class.

Along the way he tied a state record for the most falls in the state tournament with 10. That record still stands today. Jeremy finished his wrestling career with a record of 129-18. He earned 25 individual tournament titles in the process.

Last summer Mr. Poulsen was inducted into the Nebraska Scholastic Wrestling Coach’s Hall of Fame.

Poulsen currently lives in Tilden, NE with his wife Jenna and their two daughters. He is employed by the Nebraska Public Power District.
